FKA twigs is preparing to release her first album in five years, MAGDALENE, and yesterday she dropped her Future collaboration, “holy terrain.” The elusive singer recently discussed Future’s appearance on the album in an interview with i-d, saying she randomly texted him to ask about the prospect of working together.
“I wasn’t sure whether he would even know who I am. I was like, ‘Hi, it’s Twigs. Let me know if you wanna talk about music or anything.’ He texted back right away and I was like, ‘Oh my god, he’s just messaged me back!’" she recalled. “He’s such a sweetheart. I sent him the album and I called him up and was like, ‘Listen, Future… this is what my album’s about. It’s a really empowering, sensitive record, with a lot of feminine energy, and this song is probably the most fun track on it, but I still need lyrical content.’ And he said, ‘Okay, I’ve got it’. And his verse is beautiful.”
On the track, Future croons about his failures in a relationship:

Pray for my sins, make me stronger where I’m weak, yeah
We die, we die together, the prophecy complete, yeah

“He’s just talking about his downfalls as a man; how he’s sorry and asking for healing,“ Twigs said. "I love sad Future. I love when he gets emo, when he expresses himself. It’s just so beautiful when he opens up.”
Although Future is known for his womanizing public persona and lyrics, he’s also shown an emotional side on some of his projects. 2017’s HNDRXX in particular is filled with songs about heartbreak and self doubt. It seems Twigs wanted to tap into this side of the Atlanta rapper for “holy terrain.”
MAGDALENE is set to drop on Friday, October 25. It’s her first full-length since LP1 in 2014.
