“When I said it’s her and I, that shit was a lie.”

G-Eazy and Halsey’s high-profile romance may have been short lived, but it continues to play out through their music. On his new single, “I Wanna Rock,” he dismissed their relationship by referencing their joint hit, “Him & I.” The new single is produced by Boi-1da, Jahaan Sweet, Sevn Thomas, and Audi, and features a verse from Gunna.

Genius contributor Wes Brown breaks down the shot, which is just the latest in a series of relationship references on the former lovers' songs:

“Him & I” is the third-highest charting song of G-Eazy’s career, peaking at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earning double Platinum certification.

G-Eazy’s “I Wanna Rock” appears to sample its main instrumental from “Unknown Soldier” by Geoff Leach, which was also famously sampled by Capone-N-Noreaga on 2000’s “Bang Bang” featuring Foxy Brown:

That song played a major role in the beef between Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim, leading to the 2001 shooting outside New York City’s Hot 97 radio station that eventually caused Kim to spend a year in prison.

“I Wanna Rock” is set to appear on G-Eazy’s upcoming EP, Scary Nights.
