Katy Perry Tries To Move On With Her New Single “Small Talk”

Perry’s latest follows the Zedd-produced “365” and “Never Really Over.”

Katy Perry just returned with her latest 2019 single, “Small Talk.” Following recent collaborations with Zedd, Perry let Charlie Puth and Johan Carlsson get behind the boards this time.

On the track, she sings about the awkwardness of moving on from a relationship:

Acting like we never met
Faking like we’d just forget we were lovers
And now there’s nothing left but small talk
Had every inch of your skin
There’s nowhere your hands haven’t been (Oh)
Ain’t it funny?
‘Cause now there’s nothing left but small talk

Perry posted lyric snippets on Twitter ahead of the song’s release:

Perry revealed the new track at the Capitol Congress 2019 run by Capitol Music Group. At the ceremony, she received a plaque for 100 million RIAA certifications–which makes her one of five artists to top 100 million certified units with digital singles.

The singer has had a busy 2019 so far. She’s already released the singles “365” and “Never Really Over,” the latter reaching No. 15 on the Hot 100. She also hopped on a remix of “Con Calma” with Daddy Yankee and Snow.

She appeared to bury the hatchet with longtime nemesis Taylor Swift in the latter’s music video for “You Need to Calm Down.” “[Katy] and I have really been on good terms for a while,” Swift said in an interview with Capital FM. “She sent me a really nice note and an olive branch—like an actual olive branch—to my tour when it started, the Reputation Stadium Tour, a while ago. From that point on, we’ve been on good terms. We saw each other at a party and walked up to each other and hugged it out and talked about things.”

However, Perry recently lost a copyright lawsuit against her track “Dark Horse.” A jury decided that the song’s collaborators would have to pay $2.8 million in damages to Christian rapper Flame. The pop star is responsible for paying $550,000 of that amount.
