Katy Perry Samples Norwegian Pop Star Dagny On Her New Song “Never Really Over”

It’s her second collaboration with Zedd this year.

Two years after the release of her third album, Witness, Katy Perry returns with her new single, “Never Really Over.” It’s Perry’s second collaboration with Zedd this year, following the release of “365” earlier this year. The song samples “Love You Like That," a 2017 track by Norwegian pop star Dagny.

Perry gave a select group of KatyCats–her fandom name–the first listen of the track on May 29 at a fan event in Los Angeles. Trading in “purposeful pop” for a bit of tranquility, she told the crowd: “This time, or this video, or things that I’m touching on is kind of a time like age of Aquarius, new age, esoteric, California, healing, hippie, medicinal, plant-based… all those keywords.”

The song is about “learning to heal your heart, let go and find a place to unite,” as the pop star told Good Morning America on May 30. The sun-kissed visual was shot in Malibu.

“It’s a place where you go to heal your heart and let go of any remnants of energy from older relationships. A place of tranquility and synchronicity,” the California girl said in a faux-British accent during the song’s trailer. “A place to unite through our broken hearts. A place to learn that there is a push and a pull to healing. And that while sometimes it can feel like those old relationships will never really be over, through the activities and surroundings, you’ll learn to heal and finally let it go.”
