Kendrick Lamar Makes Surprise Appearance Alongside J. Cole On Dreamville’s “Under The Sun”

Kendrick Lamar made a surprise appearance alongside J. Cole on “Under the Sun.” The opening track from Revenge of the Dreamers III–released by Cole’s Dreamville label–also features Lute and DaBaby.

Lamar isn’t officially listed as a feature on the song, but his uncredited vocals can be heard on the chorus:

I woke up for some money, ayy, lil' bitch
Too many opps in here, tell me who you with, ayy

During a New Year’s Eve broadcast last year, the TDE-affiliated MackWop spoke about bringing Lamar and Cole together for more songs. “If we being honest, I think I’m gonna be the one that can make it happen,” he said. “I’m gonna get K-Dot on the line, I'ma get Top on the phone, I'ma get Cole on the phone. I'ma be like, ‘Yo we gotta get these records out, the people need them.’”

Rumors have been swirling about a collaborative album between the two rappers since 2010. However, Cole said the release wasn’t “actively happening” in a 2018 interview with Angie Martinez.

The duo previously appeared together on several tracks, including Trae tha Truth’s “I’m on 2.0,” DJ Khaled’s “They Ready,” and Cole’s “Forbidden Fruit.”

Revenge of the Dreamers III is packed with a guest list of names both big and small, including Young Nudy, T.I., and Vince Staples.

Cole took to Twitter ahead of the release to encourage listeners to check out the up-and-comers. “Know that this album represents community and the unheard unsung artist that fight and bleed daily to be felt,” he wrote. “There will be someone you never heard of on this album. Look them up and support them if they resonate with you. A follow goes a long way.”
