How Kenny Beats Became Hip-Hop’s Favorite Producer

Collaborations with Vince Staples, Freddie Gibbs, Ski Mask the Slump God, Rico Nasty, & KEY! raised his profile.

Connecticut-born producer Kenny Beats broke out in 2018 by teaming with rising acts like Rico Nasty and Ski Mask the Slump God, as well as more established artists including Vince Staples and Freddie Gibbs. He is now one of hip-hop’s elite producers, securing a spot at Dreamville’s fabled Revenge of the Dreamers III sessions in January 2019.

Kenny made a name for himself in the Boston hip-hop scene while attending Berklee College of Music, collaborating with rappers like Smoke DZA, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul. He later switched gears by forming the successful EDM duo LOUDPVCK. After the group split up in November 2017, Kenny returned to hip-hop and R&B, while incorporating what he learned from touring the EDM scene.

With a focus on forging a relationship with artists, Kenny spent 2018 shaping Rico Nasty’s sound on “Smack a Bitch” and “Countin' Up,” as well as linking up with KEY! on their collaborative project, 777. Collaborating with Ski Mask the Slump God on “Foot Fungus” earned Kenny his first Billboard Hot 100 hit.

In 2019, Kenny reunited with Rico Nasty on their critically acclaimed project, Anger Management. He also launched a YouTube series titled The Cave, which produced comedian Zack Fox’s viral hit, “Jesus is the One (I Got Depression).”
