She verified all the lyrics on Genius, too.

Halsey just dropped her new single “Eyes Closed,” and it features a surprising co-writing credit from The Weeknd. Just like her early April single “Now or Never,” the track is co-produced by Cashmere Cat, Happy Perez, and Benny Blanco. Both songs will appear on Halsey’s upcoming sophomore album, hopeless fountain kingdom.

The New Jersey native clarified that she wrote all the lyrics for the song, but The Weeknd helped craft the melody:

On the track, Halsey sings about escape:

Now if I keep my eyes closed, he looks just like you
But he’ll never stay, they never do
Now if I keep my eyes closed, he feels just like you
But you’ve been replaced
I’m face to face with someone new

Halsey also sat down for an interview with Zane Lowe and Oscar-nominated director Baz Luhrmann, where she explained how Luhrmann’s films inspire her work.

“I had watched it over and over and over again,” she said about his version of Romeo & Juliet. “One day I realized as I was getting to the thick of the rising action of the record — the moment where I’m realizing that the love is this doomed, forsaken kind of thing, I realize that that’s why I was so obsessed with the film. I felt like I was living it.” hopeless fountain kingdom is set to drop on June 2.
