It’s the second release from his upcoming solo debut album.

Although Harry Styles premiered the song “Ever Since New York” during his Saturday Night Live performance last month, it won’t be the second single from his upcoming self-titled album. Instead, he dropped a new song today titled “Sweet Creature.” The track is produced by Tyler Johnson, Kid Harpoon, Alex Salibian, and Jeff Bhasker, the latter of whom serves as the executive producer on Styles' debut album.

The track is backed by acoustic guitar, and features Styles singing about a carefree relationship:

Sweet creature
We’re running through the garden
Where nothing bothered us
But we’re still young
I always think about you and how we don’t speak enough

The song’s title, “Sweet Creature,” is a term of endearment that is believed to originate in William Shakespeare’s Othello. As Genius contributor goodkidkevcity points out, in Act 3, Scene 3 of the play, the character Iago says:

In sleep I heard him say ‘Sweet Desdemona,
Let us be wary, let us hide our loves.’
And then, sir, would he gripe and wring my hand,
Cry ‘O sweet creature!’ and then kiss me hard

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Jeff Bhasker explained what Styles' upcoming album will sound like:

It’s different from what you’d expect…It made me realize the Harry [when he was in One Direction] was kind of the digitized Harry. Almost like a character. I don’t think people know a lot of the sides of him that are on this album. You put it on and people are like, ‘This is Harry Styles?‘

“Sweet Creature” is the second official single from Harry Styles' upcoming solo debut album, following the release of “Sign of the Times” in early April. Both songs feature an old-school rock sound. The album drops on May 12.
