Harry Styles’ “Two Ghosts” May Be About His Relationship With Taylor Swift

He played coy about the theory in a recent interview.

Ever since Harry Styles‘ self-titled solo debut album dropped last night, fans have honed in on one song in particular: “Two Ghosts.” Many have speculated that song is about his ex Taylor Swift. Although the couple only dated briefly, Swift wrote two songs that are believed to be about him, “Out of the Woods” and “Style.” Both songs appeared on her 2014 album 1989, and the latter peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Two Ghosts” opens with a reference to someone with red lips and blue eyes:

The second line seems to reference his own tattoos, of which he has more than 65. Red lips could apply to pretty much anyone, but on “Style,” Swift memorably sings:

The lyrics themselves are innocent enough to be dismissed as a coincidence—after all, their relationship was five years ago—but Styles' own reaction when asked directly about the Taylor Swift connection is more telling. In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, he tiptoed around the idea of the song’s inspiration. “I think it’s pretty self-explanatory,” he said. “I think it’s about, sometimes things change, and you can do all the same things and sometimes its just different.”
