Iggy Azalea Says She “Really Was Scared” About Competing With Peppa Pig On The Charts

The rapper is facing off against a beloved cartoon character for first-week sales.

Iggy Azalea sparked an amusing beef with children’s cartoon character Peppa Pig last week after discovering that they were both releasing albums on the same day. While their lighthearted Twitter exchange earned headlines, Iggy revealed in an interview with E! that she was concerned about competing with Peppa on the charts.

“She hasn’t said anything to me since, but I’m beating her on the chart today surprisingly,” Iggy said. “I really was scared though because Peppa Pig is so popular with kids. When I saw that Peppa Pig was releasing an album, I was like, ‘That’s it. I’m just out of the race. I’m beat before I even started.’”

Iggy also noted that she’s still waiting on final chart numbers to squash the beef. “I gotta see what her sales are,” she said.

Peppa Pig’s My First Album has inspired a surprising amount of online discourse, thanks in part to Iggy’s tweet. Lil Nas X also engaged with the animated pig on Twitter, joking about a Peppa Pig “Old Town Road” remix:

She’s also popped up in memes:

Despite the viral attention, Peppa seems unlikely to put up huge first-week sales. The project’s lead single, “Bing Bong Zoo,” has earned just over 100,000 streams on Spotify since its release, while other tracks have less than 50,000. The iTunes chart also shows Iggy well ahead of Peppa. Iggy’s real competition lies in Beyoncé, whose new album, The Lion King: The Gift also debuted on Friday, as well as previously released projects by Ed Sheeran and Billie Eilish that continue to perform well.
