“’ADHD’ coming in another 5 years.”

Joyner Lucas recently took to Facebook to announce that the release of his sophomore album, ADHD, will be delayed.

“You cannot please everyone,” he said. “You must make the best choices suitable for your current position in life and for the future of you and your loved ones. Your Sanity is more important than anything.

He pointed to The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1997 hit. “When ‘more money more problems’ came out in 97 I had no idea what that song meant,” he said. “I lost a lot of family and friends due to success and what comes with it. Anybody on the outside looking in only sees the surface level and thinks they are cut out. A lot of you aspiring artists & up and comings have no idea what lies beneath the surface.”

Then he touched on how success can impact mental health. “The ones who aren’t cut out for this will drive themselves crazy and it will effect your mental health unless you get rid of the bad cancer,” he said. “I made a lot of personal choices that freed me of my sanity and it’s honestly some of the best choices I ever made. I don’t regret a single thing and I’m more happy and positive than I ever been.”

He closed out the message by saying, “ADHD coming in another 5 years.”

Last October, Lucas released the album’s lead single, “I Love,” which has racked up over 181,000 views on Genius. His third single–a collab with Logic called “Isis”–became his highest-charting song on the Hot 100 at No. 59. Earlier this month, he released the Timbaland-assisted “10 Bands.”

His debut full-length, 508-507-2209, was released in June 2017.

The Massachusetts rapper previously tweeted about the significance of the album. “This project is my big FUCK YOU to any and everybody who never thought I wouldn’t make it this far,” he wrote. “BIG FUCK YOU to anybody who stood in my way & shitted on me on my way up. The kid with ‘ADHD’ did it.”

Earlier this year, he received two Grammy nominations. “I’m Not Racist” was up for Best Music Video, while “Lucky You” was nominated for Best Rap Song.
