Justin Bieber & Ed Sheeran Team Up For “I Don’t Care”

The duo reunite almost four years after working on Bieber’s smash hit, “Love Yourself.”

Two pop powerhouses, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran, joined forces on their new single, “I Don’t Care.” The last time the duo worked together back in 2015, Bieber’s “Love Yourself”–co-written by Sheeran–hit the top of the Hot 100.

They later shared the song’s official music video, making liberal use of the green screen:

On the chorus, Sheeran sings about being with someone who makes his problems disappear:

‘Cause I don’t care when I’m with my baby, yeah
All the bad things disappear
And you’re making me feel like maybe I am somebody
I can deal with the bad nights
When I’m with my baby, yeah

Bieber covers the same topic on his verse:

With all these people all around
I’m crippled with anxiety
But I’m sold it’s where we’re s'posed to be
You know what? It’s kinda crazy ‘cause I really don’t mind
And you make it better like that

This is Bieber’s first single since 2017’s “Friends” with BloodPop. His last album, Purpose, was released in 2015. The “Sorry” singer last made an appearance as a featured artist on DJ Khaled’s “No Brainer” alongside Quavo and Chance the Rapper last year. He recently returned to the stage during Ariana Grande’s headlining Coachella set on the festival’s second weekend.

Several weeks ago, he announced on Instagram that he’d be taking some time off to repair some “deep-rooted issues.” But he also said he’d return with new music: “I will come with a kick ass album ASAP, my swag is undeniable and my drive is indescribable his love is supernatural his grace is that reliable.”

Sheeran’s last album, Divide, hit the top of the Billboard 200 back in 2017. The streaming giant’s “Shape of You” passed Drake’s “One Dance” to become the most-streamed song on Spotify back in 2017. It currently has over 2.154 billion plays.

The singer was recently seen in the studio with Japanese rock band One OK Rock. He just wrapped up the most recent Asia leg of his Divide world tour, and he’s headed to Europe later in May.

It’s unclear if the new song will appear on an album by either artist.

The “Thinking Out Loud” singer previously teased the lyrics on Instagram:

‘Cause I don’t care when I’m with my baby, yeah
All the bad things disappear
And you’re making me feel like maybe I am somebody
I can deal with the bad nights
When I’m with my baby, yeah

Before announcing the track, the two artists grabbed the media’s attention with a cryptic back-and-forth across social media, dropping teasers via old photos, Twitter polls, and a “Photoshop spoon.”

Fans even guessed the song title before it was confirmed. The fan theory-baiting recalls a similar promotional tactic by Taylor Swift with her latest single “ME!” last month.
