“This song was really hard for me to write.”

Olivia O'Brien wrote her latest song “Empty” when she moved out to Los Angeles to start her career. The singer/songwriter put all of her emotions into the track and touches on personal moments from her childhood, like her parents' divorce, throughout the song.

“This song was really hard for me to write—I wrote it when I first moved out to LA and I was feeling kind of confused about life,” she tells Genius. I didn’t really have a lot of friends here but I didn’t fit in back home but I was just in a weird in between place in my life. I actually cried a lot in this session because it’s such an emotional song and I was just not in a great place in my life."
