Louis Tomlinson Dives Head First Into Rock On New Song “Out Of My System”

It’s the second taste of his forthcoming sophomore LP, ‘Faith in the Future.’

Today, Louis Tomlinson dropped his latest single, “Out of My System,” and this time, the former One Directioner has ditched his pop roots in favor of a more industrial rock sound. The track is the second offering from his forthcoming sophomore album, Faith in the Future, following “Bigger Than Me,” an acoustic pop-punk single about getting out of your own head.

Produced by Nicolas Rebscher, “Out of My System” was the Faith in the Future track that helped steer Tomlinson in the direction he wanted to go for the album.

“It was my first moment of excitement making this record, and where it felt we were on to something which honors the live show,” Tomlinson said in a statement. “I realized from doing those live shows what it means to my fans and how everything I do is bigger than me. It’s almost a coming of age for myself and putting opinions about myself to the back of my mind and thinking about what it potentially means for other people.”

Lyrically, the song is about wanting to make the most out of life—even if that means being a little reckless. Tomlinson is eager not to waste a second on the first verse.

Slowly, I never wanna go slowly
I only wanna go faster
Towards disaster every time

On the pre-chorus, he knows he hasn’t reached his full potential yet.

I am only half of what
I think I can be

He vows to rectify that before his time comes to an end on the chorus.

Gotta get it out of my system
Gotta get it off of my chest
I’ve lived a lot of my life already
But I gotta get through the rest

His inner demons can wait on the second verse. Right now, the most important thing is living life to the fullest.

Demons, I’m takin’ all of my demons
Putting them where I won’t see them
‘Cause I just wanna feel alive

Faith in the Future is set to arrive on November 11. In the meantime, you can check out all the lyrics to “Out of My System” on Genius now.
