Logic, Alessia Cara, & Khalid Team Up For The Powerful “1-800-273-8255” Video

It candidly addresses the topics of suicide and depression.

Logic scored the biggest hit of his career this year with “1-800-273-8255” featuring Khalid and Alessia Cara, and now he’s sharing a new music video for the track. The accompanying visual tackles the song’s dark themes of depression and suicidal thoughts through the story of a gay relationship. Starring actors Don Cheadle and Luis Guzman, the video depicts the life of a young man coming to terms with his sexuality and the resulting rejection from his friends and family.

“1-800-273-8255” gets its name from the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and features all three artists candidly addressing the topic of suicide. On the first verse, Logic raps from the perspective of someone struggling with suicidal thoughts:

And my life don’t even matter
I know it I know it I know I’m hurting deep down but can’t show it
I never had a place to call my own
I never had a home
Ain’t nobody callin' my phone
Where you been? Where you at? What’s on your mind?
They say every life precious but nobody care about mine

In addition to continuing the dialogue around suicide prevention, the song has been directly credited with inspiring a 25 percent increase in calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. “1-800-273-8255” peaked at No. 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year.

Logic recently broke down the meaning behind the song’s lyrics in an episode of Genius' video series Verified:
