The Max Martin-penned track was widely shared after leaking back in January.

After going the stripped-down route with songs like “Joanne” and “Shallow,” Lady Gaga is returning to her high-concept roots on her latest single, “Stupid Love.”

The song’s new music video visual presents a sci-fi explosion of colors, accompanied by a classic Gaga dance sequence. Produced by Tchami and BloodPop®, the hook-filled track centers on Gaga’s desire for love—even if it’s irrational:

I don’t need a reason (Oh)
Not sorry, I want your stupid love
I don’t need a reason (Oh)
Not sorry, I want your stupid love
Higher, higher

“Stupid Love” leaked in late January, prompting Gaga to jokingly chide her fans:

In recent years, the pop virtuoso took a detour into country-pop with 2016’s Joanne. This dressed-down direction culminated in the acclaimed soundtrack for A Star Is Born. “Shallow” ended up winning the Oscar for Best Original Song back in 2018.

While frequent collaborator DJ White Shadow sat out the making of Gaga’s forthcoming album, he gave it the nod. “I’ve heard it. It’s not my art to share with you, but I can tell you this, [as] with everything that she does, it’s genius,” he told E! News. “I’m excited for her to put it out. I think that it’s really good.”

Rolling Stone notes that Grimes—who previously enlisted the help of BloodPop® on “Go”—shared a CD case with a photo of Gaga on her Instagram Story. The tracklist appears to point to a Grimes feature on a track called “Real Boy.”

Genius News previously broke down “Shallow” for Song Stories:
