Lana Del Rey Shares Cover of Donovan’s 1966 Classic ‘Season Of The Witch’

The song was recorded for the movie ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.’

Lana Del Rey is gearing up for the release of her new album, Normal Fucking Rockwell, and shared two new tracks this week: the anti-gun anthem “Looking for America,” and a cover, “Season of the Witch.”

Lana Del Rey’s whimsical sound pairs fittingly with the psychedelic tone of the original “Season of the Witch,” recorded by Donovan in 1966. Her version appears Guillermo Del Toro’s new horror movie, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, which was released on Friday.

Although Lana’s new cover is not set to appear on her new album, her cover of Sublime’s 1996 hit, “Doin' Time,” likely will.

“Looking for America” is also not set to appear on Norman Fucking Rockwell, but provided commentary on the recent mass shootings in Gilroy, California, El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

I’m still looking for my own version of America
One without the gun, where the flag can freely fly
No bombs in the sky, only fireworks when you and I collide
It’s just a dream I had in mind

Lana shared a video on Instagram of herself singing the song, along with the caption:

“Now I know I’m not a politician and I’m not trying to be so excuse me for having an opinion- but in light of all of the mass shootings and the back to back shootings in the last couple of days which really affected me on a cellular level I just wanted to post this video that our engineer Laura took 20 minutes ago. I hope you like it.”

She later revealed that the proceeds from the song would go towards victim relief funds in Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton.
