Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” is spending its fourth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week, and setting a new record in the process. As Billboard reports, it’s now the longest No. 1 run for a solo female rapper in the chart’s history, eclipsing the three-week run of Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow.”
Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX still holds the record for most total weeks at No. 1 for a female rapper as a lead artist (seven weeks), while Cardi maintains her record for most total weeks at No. 1 for a female rapper as a featured artist (seven weeks for her appearance on Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You”).
“Truth Hurts” first dropped way back in 2017, but saw a spike in popularity this year after it appeared in the Netflix film Someone Great. Earlier this year, she told People that she considered quitting music after the song failed to take off following its release.
Whether Lizzo’s music can be classified as strictly hip-hop remains up for debate, as she incorporates a variety of genres into her work. However, the Minneapolis artist previously pushed back against the idea that people don’t view her as a rapper while classifying melodic acts like Future and Swae Lee as such.
