Lil Baby & Future Team Up For The First Time On “Out The Mud”

Future previously called Lil Baby one of the current “GOATs” of trap music.

Lil Baby and Future are two of the biggest names in Atlanta hip-hop, but they’d never made music together until now. “Out the Mud,” a new single produced by Baby’s regular collaborator Quay Global, was released on June 21 and sees the MCs reflect on their adverse backgrounds and respective rises to success.

To open the song, Lil Baby references Atlanta trailblazer Soulja Boy and discusses how he’s brought the people he grew up with to be part of his new life. He says:

I been riding ‘round in rental cars, tryna lay low
I’m a real Soulja Boy, I really play with Dracos
Got the whole gang from out the hood, then put 'em on a payroll
Having flashbacks of hittin’ the red with the K-roll (Bow, bow)

During his verse, Future references his old alias Pluto, which was the title of his 2012 debut, and talks about his history selling drugs. He raps:

Street love nigga, street niggas call me Pluto
Really I’m a trap nigga, I can wrap a kilo (Yeah)
Sippin' sizzurp (Yeah), took me number one, no promo (Yeah)
I’m in spaceships (Yeah), I’m the boss on a new low (Yeah, yeah)

In an interview on Real 92.3 in Los Angeles, Future called Lil Baby and Gunna the current “GOATs” of trap music. Future and Gunna have worked together on the tracks “Unicorn Purp” and “Money Train.”

It’s unclear whether the single is a one-off or if it’s intended as the lead track from a new Lil Baby project. Future released his latest project, the melancholic EP SAVE ME, on June 7.

Lil Baby appeared on Genius' series For The Record to discuss Atlanta hip-hop and his Street Gossip mixtape in December.
