Lil’ Kim Claims She’s Not Taking Shots At Nicki Minaj On Her Collaboration With Remy Ma

She’s not sure about Remy’s verses, though.

Earlier this week, TMZ reported that the upcoming collaboration between Remy Ma and Lil' Kim, “Wake Me Up,” includes some lyrics directed at their shared rival, Nicki Minaj. On Friday, Kim appeared on Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning and clarified she wasn’t taking shots at Nicki.

When asked about the song, Kim said she would’ve name-checked Nicki if that were the case:

Because we are real artists, and me and Remy do what we do, no matter what we say… if I be like, ‘Fake ass such, such, and such,’ they gon' [say], ‘Oh, she’s talking about such, such, and such. I feel like people know me and Remy well enough that if we gon’ talk about somebody, we’re going to say their name. We’re gonna address them. We’re gonna make it that, or whatever. We just making music. We’re doing what we do. You know what I mean? Like I said, my mind is always on that bag. My mind ain’t on ol' girl or anything else.

On the other hand, Kim noted that she doesn’t actually have full verse on the song and admitted to not knowing Remy’s intentions with the track:

I don’t know what Remy’s approach to her verses were. I’m only on the hook, and I do a bridge. And I thought it would be so boss because when you hear the song, it’s a familiar song.

Kim’s beef with Nicki dates back to when the latter rapper was promoting her pre-Pink Friday mixtape, Playtime Is Over. After back-and-further chatter onstage and in interviews, Kim released her “Black Friday” diss track and mixtape during the same week Nicki shared her debut album. Nicki subsequently fired back with “Tragedy,” and their beef has continued simmering since then.

Meanwhile, Remy Ma and Nicki’s rivalry is much more recent. Earlier this year, Remy dropped a pair of diss tracks in “ShETHER” and “Another One” in response to subliminal shots on Nicki’s “Make Love." Nicki continued the beef on the Drake and Lil Wayne-assisted “No Frauds.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Kim spoke about her newly released song “Took Us A Break,” shared stories about her relationship with The Notorious B.I.G., and gave her thoughts about current female artists showing each other love.
