Tjay first teased the track back in January.

On Friday, Lil Tjay dropped his new single, “In My Head,” after first previewing the track more than two months ago with a clip on Twitter of him filming the song’s music video. Since its release, the song has found its way into the Top 10 on the Genius Top Songs chart.

Produced by Yoshi and Yvng Finxssa, “In My Head” samples the hook from British singer-songwriter Iyaz’s 2009 Top 10 hit “Replay.” Iyaz and his co-writers on that track, which include fellow pop singer Sean Kingston, also received writing credit on “In My Head.”

“In My Head” opens with a slowed down version of Iyaz’s infectious hook, which reminds us that there was a time you couldn’t use your phone to listen to music on the go.

Shawty’s like a melody in my head that I can’t keep out, got me singin’ like
Na-na-na-na, every day (Lil Tjay)
It’s like my iPod stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay (Ooh, ooh, ooh)

Next up, Tjay steps in for the chorus, where he struggles to define how he feels about his new girl.

I got some funny feelings in my head and, girl, I don’t know what to call it (Call)
Too iffy and quick, I can’t say that it’s love, but I know that I want some more of it (More)

He opens up about why he’s hesitant to call it love later on in the hook. He’s been hurt before, and the wound is still fresh.

Daily, you be on my mind, my heart hurt, beat, and bruised from the owner before it (Oh)
Got a good feeling this time, I been focused on you and I cannot ignore it (No)

On the first verse, Tjay warns his girl about the type of person she’s getting involved with.

Have you ever loved a gangster? (No) Got a feelin’ that you never did (Nah)
It’s a different type of love, different type of hug, tryna catch it from a kid (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)

He gives a fuller picture of his dating profile on the second verse. Tjay may be a little rough around the edges, but he’s not like anyone else you’ll meet—and he’s certainly ambitious.

I can be feelin’ I’m one of a kind
Can’t no one hold me back, how they gon’ hold me back? Destined to win, they don’t block out my shine

“In My Head” arrived alongside a music video that features a guest appearance from rapper Rubi Rose, Tjay’s on-again, off-again girlfriend.
