Mac Miller’s First Posthumous Release Is A Haunting Performance Of His ‘Swimming’ Cut “Dunno”

He also covered Billy Preston’s 1974 hit, “Nothing From Nothing.”

Before his tragic and unexpected death in September, Mac Miller was hard at work promoting his fifth album, Swimming. Today, the Spotify Singles session he recorded after the album came out was finally released, finding Mac performing the track “Dunno” as well as a cover of Billy Preston’s “Nothing From Nothing.” Excluding his production work on J.I.D’s new album, DiCaprio 2, this is the first posthumous Mac Miller material to be released.

“Dunno” finds Mac pondering a special relationship:

Until, until, there is no longer
Let’s get lost inside the clouds
And you, you don’t gotta work harder
I can calm you down

The Pittsburgh MC also covered 1974’s “Nothing From Nothing,” one of two No. 1 hits by rock, R&B, and funk musician and The Beatles affiliate Billy Preston. The late rapper delivered a slowed-down rendition compared to the original, but kept its lyrics intact:

Nothin' from nothin' leaves nothin'
You gotta have somethin' if you wanna be with me
