Madlib Previews Another Unreleased Collaboration With Mac Miller

It’s the latest tease from their joint project.

Although Madlib has stated that there is no planned release for his collaborative EP with the late Mac Miller, the California producer continues to play music recorded for the project during his DJ sets. On July 6, Madlib previewed another unreleased collaboration with the Pittsburgh rapper while performing at MoMA PS1 in Queens, New York.

Miller opens his verse by rapping:

Doing EPs in one day
Sober right now but I’ll be back by Sunday

In March, Madlib teased a different Mac Miller collaboration during a San Diego performance. He played the snippet after Thelonious Martin broke the news that Madlib and Miller had worked on a joint project titled Maclib together.

Madlib later unveiled details about the collaborative project on his website, explaining that there are no plans for an official release. The rapper and producer first met in 2014 after Mac recorded his verse on “Pińata” from Madlib and Freddie Gibbs‘ album of the same name. From early 2015 through 2017, Mac continually recorded new songs over batches of Madlib’s beats.

Despite Miller’s reputation as a studio rat, there have only been a few original releases since his death in September 2018. Last month, Free Nationals‘ single, “Time,” marked Miller’s first posthumous appearance. 88-Keys also released “That’s Life,” which features two verses by the late rapper.
