Miley Cyrus Recruits Stevie Nicks For The “Midnight Sky” Remix “Edge Of Midnight”

It mashes up Cyrus’ latest hit with the Fleetwood Mac legend’s “Edge of Seventeen.”

Miley Cyrus is drawing inspiration from some rock legends for her new album, Plastic Hearts, and she further displays that deference today with the release of “Midnight Sky (Edge of Midnight).” The remix mashes up her recent hit, “Midnight Sky” with Stevie Nicks‘ 1981 solo hit, “Edge of Seventeen.” Nicks contributes new vocals to the track, duetting with Cyrus on the “Midnight Sky” lyrics.

The song’s chorus combines Cyrus' “Midnight Sky” lyrics with Nicks' “Edge of Seventeen” lyrics, as both artists sing:

I was born to run, I don’t belong to anyone, oh no
I don’t need to be loved by you (By you)
Fire in my lungs, can’t bite the devil on my tongue, oh no
I don’t need to be loved by you
See my lips on her mouth, everybody’s talkin' now, baby
Ooh, baby, ooh, said, ooh
Just like the white winged dove (Just like the white winged dove)
Sings a song, sounds like she’s singing
Ooh, baby, ooh, said, ooh

It also features the iconic opening guitar instrumentals from “Edge of Seventeen.” Nicks' song appears on her 1981 album, Bella Donna, her first outing as a solo artist after years of massive success as a singer in Fleetwood Mac. It peaked at No. 11 on the Hot 100 chart, the third of four successful singles from Bella Donna that helped the album go 4x Platinum in the US.

Cyrus has channeled several iconic female rock musicians in recent months. Her upcoming album, Plastic Hearts, will also include covers of The Cranberries“Zombie” and Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.” The original version of “Midnight Sky” peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and currently sits at No. 56.
