Miley Cyrus Name Checks Cardi B & Nicki Minaj On New Track “Cattitude”

The pop star has a new EP dropping this Friday, May 31.

Miley Cyrus debuted three new tracks at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend music festival, including “Cattitude,” where she mentions both Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. Cyrus and Minaj had a feud stemming from an onstage incident at the 2015 VMAs, while Cardi and Nicki have longstanding issues.

During her set, Cyrus debuted “Cattitude” alongside “Mother’s Daughter” and “Drugs Ruled Everything Around Me,” which are presumably off her She Is Coming EP and potentially her seventh studio album.

On “Cattitude,” Cyrus first seems to show affection towards Nicki before implying she prefers Cardi B’s music:

I love you Nicki, but I listen to Cardi

In a new interview with Capital Breakfast With Ryan Kemp, Cyrus explained the meaning behind the lyrics.

“I don’t think there is beef now anymore,” Cyrus said about her onetime feud with Nicki. “Actually, one of my songs says ‘You want to know if we’re really beefin’?/There’s no beef. I’m a vegan.‘ I think you’re allowed to enjoy two artists that fill a similar lane. I just always grew up collaborating with Selena and Demi, and there was never competition. That’s why Ariana is one of my best friends.”

“Cattitude” is set to appear on Cyrus' new EP, She is Coming, which she just announced drops this Friday, May 31:

In August 2015, Cyrus criticized Minaj’s complaints about not getting a Video of the Year nomination for “Anaconda” at the VMAs, which prompted a retort from Minaj during the show itself. That same year, Minaj also spoke to The New York Times Magazine about Cyrus' use of hip-hop tropes and involvement in rap culture, something she says will influence her upcoming album after distancing herself from the genre in 2017.

“If you want to enjoy our culture and our lifestyle, bond with us, dance with us, have fun with us, twerk with us, rap with us, then you should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us. You shouldn’t not want to know that,” Minaj said.

Cyrus shared an image of her and Minaj together on Instagram in March 2019 implying that the pair had made amends.

Cyrus has less history with Cardi B, though she was embroiled in controversy when she posted a video of herself dressed up for St. Patrick’s Day listening to Offset’s “Ric Flair Drip” and tagged Cardi and Offset.

The tension between Cardi and Nicki boiled over into a fight during New York Fashion Week in 2018. They appeared together on Migos' “Motorsport,” which Cardi later said Nicki changed her verse on. They later seemed to trade subliminal barbs on songs like Nicki’s “Ganja Burn” and “No Flag,” as well as Cardi’s “No Limit” verse.

Later, Cyrus tweeted a version of the “Cattitude” lyrics that were about Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.

Genius broke down Nicki’s shots at Cardi on Tyga’s “Dip” in the episode of Song Stories below.
