Nicki Minaj Parties With Hip-Hop Puppets In Her “Barbie Dreams” Video

It’s her latest team-up with Hype Williams.

Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie Dreams” has been one of the most talked-about rap records of the summer thanks to some explicit lyrics where Nicki fantasizes about sexual encounters with a lengthy list of famous rappers. Today, she teamed up with famed director Hype Williams for the song’s music video. It features Nicki in a series of high-fashion outfits as well as puppets made to resemble Lil Wayne, 6ix9ine, Meek Mill, DJ Khaled, and more. Nicki previously worked with Hype on the videos for “Stupid Hoe,” “Massive Attack,‘’ “Va Va Voom,” and “Bed.”

All of the puppets are rappers that she mentions on the song, which features her name-checking over a dozen popular MCs:

Drake worth a hundred milli, he always buyin' me shit
But I don’t know if the pussy wet or if he cryin' and shit
Meek still be in my DMs, I be havin' to duck him
“I used to pray for times like this” face-ass when I fuck him

“Barbie Dreams” peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and currently sits at No. 63. The track is produced by Rashad Smith and Mel & Mus, and remains the second-highest-charting single from Queen after “Chun Li.” It’s a remake of The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1994 track “Just Playin (Dreams),” which famously found the Brooklyn MC rapping about sexual fantasies with popular R&B artists at the time. The song has since been remade by artists like 50 Cent (“How to Rob”), Lil' Kim (“Dreams”), and even Nicki herself (2007’s “Dreams”).
