Nicki Minaj Reveals That Kanye West Was Almost Featured On “Right Thru Me”

He ended up on “Blazin” instead.

Last night, Nicki Minaj held an impromptu Twitter Q&A for her fans, mostly to talk about her songwriting process. During the discussion, she noted that Kanye West was almost featured on her early Pink Friday single “Right Thru Me”:

“Right Thru Me” was one of Nicki’s early hits, peaking at No. 3 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2010. It was the second single from her debut album, Pink Friday. This song features Nicki singing about her relationship struggles:

What are we doin'? Cause you see through me
Cause you say “Nicki,” and I say “Who me?”
And you say “No you,” and I say “Screw you”
Then you start dressin', and you start leavin'
And I start cryin', and I start screamin'
The heavy breathin', but what’s the reason?

She ultimately declined Kanye’s request to appear on the song, although she wishes that she hadn’t:

Kanye ended up on Pink Friday’s ninth track, “Blazin,” instead. During the Q&A, she also revealed that she freestyled the song’s chorus in the studio. “Blazin” is produced by Drew Money, who also produced the aforementioned “Right Thru Me.” The song samples “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” by Simple Minds.

Pink Friday debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2010, and went on to be certified triple Platinum. The album also includes the eight times Platinum single “Super Bass.”

Nicki has a new album on the way (albeit without a title or release date), and she dropped the singles “Regret In Your Tears,” “No Frauds” featuring Drake and Lil Wayne, and the Wayne-assisted “Changed It” earlier this month.
