This isn’t the first time she’s referenced the ‘Transformers’ villain in her lyrics.

Nicki Minaj just dropped her first solo single of the year, “MEGATRON.” It’s produced by Andrew “POP” Wansel and NOVA WAV, and is based around a sample of the “Filthier Riddim” by Danny Brownie, known for its use on the classic track “Heads High” by Mr. Vegas. The title of “MEGATRON” is a reference to the main antagonist of the Transformers series, and Nicki references the character on the song’s chorus:

They call me Megatron, just did a telethon
He got Margiela’s on, and I get my jealous on

This isn’t the first time she’s referenced Megatron in one of her songs. As Genius user ninetyninedreams points out, she name drops the Decepticon on Future’s 2018 track “Transformer”:

I’m still the bad guy, I am a Decepticon
Some call me Nicki but some call me Megatron
I’m stoppin' bags and I don’t need a red octagon

Last year, “Barbie Tingz” also featured some wordplay on the franchise’s protagonist, Optimus Prime:

Uh, I’m in my prime, Optimus
Sagittarius, so you know I’m an optimist
Man, keep it all real, I’m a prophetess (okay)

“MEGATRON” follows the release of her collaboration with Trina, “BAPS,” earlier this week. It’s her first solo single since she dropped her fourth album, Queen, last year.
