Rapper, business man, and community activist Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed on March 31 outside of his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles. Although the 33-year-old Crenshaw MC didn’t release his first major label album, Victory Lap, until 2018, Nipsey’s career began in 2005 with his Slauson Boy Volume 1 mixtape. Nipsey focused on longevity in the music industry, increasing his value with projects like the #Proud2Pay campaign, which charged $100 for exclusive copies of 2013’s Crenshaw and $1,000 for 2014’s Mailbox Money while still releasing the mixtapes for free online.
