Saweetie fans were surprised to find a new collaboration with Doja Cat, titled “Best Friend,” surface on streaming services early Friday morning. Apparently she was too. The California rapper shared several tweets admonishing Warner Bros. for apparently releasing the song without her knowledge or permission.
“I’m hands on with ALL of my creative & had such a dope rollout for ‘best friend,’” she wrote. “The thirst for clout & $ is real & it overrides the artists’ art.”
She also lamented the fact that the label apparently uploaded the wrong version of the song. By Friday afternoon, it had disappeared from streaming services once again.
Saweetie is still in the midst of promoting her last single, October’s “Back to the Streets” with Jhené Aiko. She dropped the song’s music video just two weeks ago. Both tracks are expected to appear on her upcoming debut album, Pretty B-tch Music, which doesn’t have a set release date yet but is expected to drop early next year.
It’s been a big year for Saweetie, who scored the highest-charting hit of her career with the Too $hort-sampling “Tap In.”
