Saweetie Sparks Social Media Debate With Her New Jhené Aiko Team-Up “Back To The Streets”

“If he’s not getting you a Birkin, if he’s not paying your bills, then throw [him] back to the streets.”

Saweetie links up with Jhené Aiko today for “Back to the Streets,” and she’s causing some waves on social media. While promoting the new Pretty B-tch Music single, the California rapper popped up on her boyfriend Quavo’s Instagram Live to declare that if a man is “not getting you a Birkin, if he’s not paying your bills, then throw that n-gga back to the streets.”

The statement is a reference to the lyrics of “Back to the Streets,” where Saweetie raps about a man providing the finer things in life or else:

I put my new man on a leash
Traded in my old n-gga, he was just a lease
I ride around town ‘til I leave
I gave the boy a round spin him back to the streets

Her declaration sparked tons of discussion on Twitter about the role of money in relationships.

It reflects the message of the song, where both women hold out for a man with deep pockets:

I’m a 5 star b-tch with the price tag
Gotta find me somebody that could match that

It’s not a new refrain for her, either. Recent Saweetie hits like “My Type” and “Tap In” also have lyrics about bagging a rich man. “Back to the Streets” echoes those same themes, albeit with a more down-tempo sound than her previous work. It’s her second time working with Jhené, following the “My Type” remix with City Girls.
