Selena Gomez Appears To Address Her Relationship With Justin Bieber On “Lose You To Love Me”

“In two months, you replaced us / Like it was easy.”

Following a year-long hiatus from releasing solo music, Selena Gomez is back today with her new single, “Lose You to Love Me.” The song is produced by Mattman & Robin and FINNEAS (known for his work with sister Billie Eilish), and it appears to tackle a hot-button issue: Gomez’s former relationship with Justin Bieber.

On the track, Gomez sings about someone moving on after just two months:

I gave my all and they all know it
You tore me down and now it’s showing
In two months, you replaced us
Like it was easy
Made me think I deserved it
In the thick of healing, yeah

Although the lyrics are general, many fans have pointed out the fact that Bieber got engaged to his now-wife Hailey Baldwin just a few months after his relationship with Gomez finally ended for good.

She also sings about ignoring red flags in a relationship:

I saw the signs and I ignored it
Rose-colored glasses all distorted
Set fire to my purpose
And I let it burn

This wouldn’t be the first time that one of them wrote a song about the other. Gomez confirmed that her 2014 song, “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” is about Bieber, while he told Ellen DeGeneres that songs like “Sorry” and “What Do You Mean?” are inspired by Gomez. Their relationship was also the subject of The Weeknd’s verse on NAV’s “Some Way,” after the singer got in the middle of Bieber and Gomez’s on-again, off-again relationship.

“Lose You to Love Me” is set to appear on Gomez’s upcoming album, her first since 2015’s Revival. In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, she said that the project is finished.

“I’m actually done,” she revealed. “I have to do a few finishing things with it, but I’m just relieved. It took me four years now to even feel at a good place with this album. And it’s just because I had such huge moments that happened in my life personally that, how was I gonna capture that and how was I gonna feel good about what I was saying?”

One of these events includes her breakup with Bieber, which she appears to be navigating on this track.
