She plays all four main characters.

Selena Gomez dropped her Ian Kirkpatrick-produced single “Bad Liar” back in May, and today she shared the song’s ‘70s-inspired music video. It’s directed by Jesse Peretz, who has previously worked on the 2011 Paul Rudd film Our Idiot Brother as well as episodes of Girls, Orange is the New Black, and The Office.

Gomez plays all four main characters in the video—appearing as a high school student, both of the student’s parents, and her teacher. The student’s father and teacher are involved in a secret, budding relationship that Gomez’s high school character slowly uncovers throughout the video.

She discussed the concept of the song in a recent interview with Power 96.5:

‘Bad Liar’ kind of tells a story of that feeling when you’re obsessed with someone, when you are in the ‘honeymoon phase’, I like to say… I think that this feeling, it’s like you can’t get them out of your head. You’re willing to dress differently, you want to speak differently but that’s not what I’m encouraging. It’s more about the feeling. You just can’t play it cool.

At the end of the video, she previews something titled “Fetish.” There’s no audio along with the preview so whether it’s a new song, her album title, or something else, remains unclear. So far, she hasn’t revealed whether or not “Bad Liar” is the first taste of an upcoming album.
