Shawn Mendes Finally Shares A Studio Version Of His “Use Somebody” Cover

He’s covered the song multiple times since 2017 & cited Kings of Leon as a major influence.

It’s no secret that Shawn Mendes is a fan of Kings of Leon’s 2008 breakout hit, “Use Somebody.” He’s performed a cover version of the song multiple times in the past two years, including at his concerts and during his MTV Unplugged set. Now, he’s finally made a studio version of his Kings of Leon cover available via his new Spotify Singles release.

Mendes previously mashed up “Use Somebody” with his own 2016 hit, “Treat You Better,” during his MTV Unplugged performance late last year:

Back in March, he told Billboard that he was “super inspired by Kings of Leon” while working on his latest album, Shawn Mendes, particularly the project’s lead single, “In My Blood.”

In June 2018, he performed the same “Use Somebody / Treat You Better” mashup at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball:

Now, he’s finally put a proper studio version of his rendition of the song out into the world. He also shared a new version of his 2018 single “Lost In Japan”:

Along with “Sex On Fire,” Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” served as the band’s breakout hit, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and eventually going Platinum. Artists like One Direction and Brooke White have previously released their own covers of the song.
