Shawn Mendes has debuted lyrics in collaboration with Genius ahead of the Sept. 23 release his sophomore album, Illuminate. Snippets of lyrics to four yet-to-be-released tracks premiered on Twitter via four cards created using Genius Lyric Messages, our new iMessage extension for iOS 10.
The 18-year-old pop music wunderkind gifted the lyrics to his 7.5 million followers a.k.a. faithful Mendes Army, starting with an exclusive line from “Honest,” a falsetto-laced apology backed by mid-tempo guitar.
Shawn also premiered lyrics to “Patience,” “Understand” and “Roses.”
In addition to debuting lyrics on Wednesday, Shawn released his “Mercy” music video, which spawned the trending #MercyVideoNow hashtag.
Shawn was discovered on Vine in 2013 before signing to Island Records in 2014, releasing an EP that went to No. 1 on iTunes in just 37 minutes that same year, and catapulting to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2015 with his debut album, Handwritten. The latter feat made him the youngest artist to go No. 1 since Justin Bieber accomplished this in 2010 at age 16.
