Silk Sonic Are Too Stressed Out On New Song “Smokin Out The Window”
It’s the third single off the duo’s debut album, ‘An Evening with Silk Sonic.’
On Friday, Silk Sonic returned with “Smokin Out The Window,” the third single off their upcoming debut project, An Evening with Silk Sonic. The duo, comprising Bruno Mars and Anderson.Paak, previously shared “Skate” and “Leave the Door Open,” the latter of which reached the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mars revealed that “Smokin Out The Window” was the first song he and Paak ever wrote together. The pair also share writing credit on the track with co-producer D’Mile. The concept came from a recurring bit Mars and .Paak had while on tour in Europe. The pair would often joke about an imaginary stressed-out dude who is smoking out the window to escape his unfortunate circumstances. When they revisited the song in February 2020, a full-length project started to take shape. “We start writing a song, right here, just going back and forth,” Mars explained, “We had so much fun in that session, it turned into, ‘What are you doing tomorrow?’”
“Smokin Out The Window” opens with a spoken-word intro from legendary funk artist Bootsy Collins, who’s also credited with coming up with Mars and .Paak’s group name, Silk Sonic. Collins sets the scene of a once-loving relationship that now only causes anxiety and stress.

But now she got me smokin’ out the window
On the first verse, Mars paints a more descriptive picture of how this woman has pushed him to his limits.

.Paak also lists a few reasons the relationship isn’t working on the pre-chorus.

Money isn’t the only thing causing problems. On the second verse, .Paak also sings about the woman’s emotional games.
Just the other night, she was grippin’ on me tight
