Stevie Wonder Serenades Michelle Obama With “Isn’t She Lovely” And “My Cherie Amour”

He changed the lyrics to “My Michelle Amour.”

First Lady Michelle Obama stopped by The Tonight Show for a tearful goodbye as she and President Obama prepare to exit the White House next week. She was treated to a serenade from Stevie Wonder while she was there. The legendary singer took the stage to sing Mrs. Obama two of his famous songs, “My Cherie Amour” and “Isn’t She Lovely?'

Stevie decided to switch up the lyrics to “My Cherie Amour” a bit. “So I must tell you,” he said. “I wrote this song, but I kind of changed the words a little bit. If I don’t get it right, fire me.” Rather than singing “My cherie amour,” he opted for “My Michelle amour.” He also sang about how much he would miss her as First Lady:

You’re the only one that we adore
because we know for us your heart beats for
You’ll always be first lady in our lives

The original lyrics are:

Pretty little one that I adore
You’re the only girl my heart beats for
How I wish that you were mine
