It’s the band’s first new album since 2015's ‘A Head Full of Dreams.’

After keeping fans waiting for four years, Coldplay premiered its latest double album, Everyday Life, live from Amman, Jordan. Featuring the likes of Stromae, Jacob Collier, and Chris Martin’s son Moses, the album spans a wide array of genres while still maintaining a coherent structure. It features a plethora of languages, including verses in Zulu, French, Spanish, Farsi and Igbo.

Longtime Coldplay fans are sure to notice that the formerly Christian Chris Martin says the word “fuck” exactly five times on the album. Chris has commented on this aspect of the album in an interview:

I swear a lot in my life ‘cause I feel that language is there to be played like music. I don’t think any words are wrong, except about four words that are really wrong. But in terms of swearing… I like swearing sometimes to reinforce a point. And this is the first album where Will Champion, our drummer, allowed me to do so.

Coldplay tackles contemporary sociopolitical topics while mocking politicians for their stance on issues such as the Syrian Civil War and American gun violence. In light of the increased mass shootings in America, the band utilizes satire on the acoustic “Guns” from the Sunset disc:

War is good for business, cut the forests, they’re so dumb

Only save your look-alikes and fuck the other ones

It’s the opinion of this board that we need more guns

Diverging from the optimistic message of 2015’s A Head Full of Dreams, Chris Martin readily recognizes the persisting issues of the world on Everyday Life. “Every day is great and every day is terrible,” he told NME in a recent interview. “There’s a lot of trouble but there’s also so much positivity.”

Coldplay has announced that they will not be touring the album due to environmental concerns.
