Lil Nas X just dropped his debut EP, 7. The Top 40’s resident memeologist has been dominating the Hot 100 with the “Old Town Road” remix with Billy Ray Cyrus for a whopping 11 weeks. This highly anticipated release with his label Columbia will be gauged as a barometer for his staying power in the aftermath of his trap-meets-country takeover.
Naturally, the Cyrus feature opens the seven-track EP. But, of course, Lil Nas X has more features up his sleeve: Cardi B and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder. On the backend, Nine Inch Nails’ Atticus Ross, and Blink 182’s Travis Barker have writing credits. Kurt Cobain is also credited on “Panini,” which interpolates Nirvana’s “In Bloom.”
Back in May, the Atlanta rapper tweeted about creating a visual for each song. “i’m tryna make a visualizer (video) for every song on the ep and tryna work with upcoming animators on each one,” he wrote. “so if y’all can link me to some dope ones pleaseeeeeee.”
