Megan Thee Stallion just dropped her latest project, Suga. The tracklist includes the previously released cut, “B.*.T.C.H.”—and this is her first release since last year’s Fever.
The nine-song tracklist arrives in the midst of turmoil at 1501 Certified Entertainment. The “Hot Girl Summer” ringleader claimed the label attempted to block her from releasing new music. She filed a lawsuit seeking termination of her contract on March 2.
She detailed the situation during a stream on Instagram Live on March 1:
The Houston rapper keeps the features to a minimum with Kehlani and Gunna. Over on the production side, she linked up with Helluva Beats and J. White Did It.
The new project unveils Meg’s titular alter ego, which she previously teased back in September. In a cover story for Rolling Stone, she explained that Suga reveals a more “sensitive” side to her alpha exterior—and she plans on getting “deeper” as she matures in her career.
“When I go and I see these other artists, and when I go to some of my friend’s shows, and I’m looking at who’s in the crowd, and I’m looking at even my god-sister, they’re 6, 7, 8, and they’re singing my songs,” she told RS. “I’m like, ‘Okay. Let me give y’all something a little deeper, because I definitely want to grow with my music. I want to grow up with my music. That was me making music as a freshman in college.”
