Taylor Swift steps out on her own today with the release of Lover, her seventh studio album and first released under her new deal with Republic Records rather than her longtime home of Big Machine Records. The 18-track album includes four pre-release singles: “Lover,” “The Archer,” “You Need To Calm Down,” and “ME!” featuring Brendon Urie. Swift worked closely with Jack Antonoff on the project, and Joel Little has multiple production credits, too.
“There are so many ways in which this album feels like a new beginning,” she recently told Vogue. “This album is really a love letter to love, in all of its maddening, passionate, exciting, enchanting, horrific, tragic, wonderful glory.”
Lover arrives amidst controversy for Swift, who recently called out the owner of her former label for selling the rights to her catalog to music mogul Scooter Braun. She encouraged fans to stream and purchase Lover “for a healthier option.” Swift controls all the masters for her new album, a first for her.
