The Black Keys just returned after a long hiatus with their ninth album, Let’s Rock. The album was released through frontman Dan Auerbach’s newish record label, Easy Eye Sound. This is the band’s first full-length since 2014’s Turn Blue, which became their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
As Genius user NathanVG points out, the duo self-produced the album without their longtime collaborator Danger Mouse, who has worked with them since 2008’s Attack & Release.
The inspiration for the album title comes from a dark piece of history. The band read a Tennessee newspaper story about the first electric-chair execution in the state in 11 years. When asked for his last words, Edmund Zagorski said, “Let’s rock.” “Nothing makes you think more about life than death,” Auerbach told Rolling Stone.
