Post Malone & Young Thug Join Forces On “Goodbyes”

This is the duo’s first team-up after teasing a collaboration back in 2017.

Post Malone and Young Thug join forces on their latest single, “Goodbyes.” This is the first joint effort between the two artists after they teased a collaboration back in 2017. The track is produced by frequent collaborator Louis Bell as well as Brian Lee. The latter producer has ties to K-pop, writing for artists such as BLACKPINK, NCT’s Ten, and G-Dragon.

On the track, Post references Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain while singing about his relationship troubles:

Me and Kurt feel the same, too much pleasure is pain
My girl spites me in vain, all I do is complain
She needs something to change, need to take off the e-e-edge
So fuck it all tonight
And don’t tell me to shut up
When you know you talk too much

Young Thug’s verse continues the theme:

I want you outta my life
I want you back here tonight
I’m tryna cut you, no knife
I wanna slice ya and dice ya
My argue possessive, ain’t got you precise
Can you not turn off the TV? I’m watchin' a fight

This year has been a quiet one for the “rockstar” rapper, but this release follows a string of successes. Last year, he notched two No. 1 hits with “Psycho” and “Sunflower,” while four of his tracks hit the Top 5. Meanwhile, Young Thug has already released “The London,” the lead single off his upcoming debut full-length, GØŁDMØÜFDÖG.

Given Post Malone’s track record of consistent top 10 hits, “Goodbyes” could lift Young Thug back into the upper reaches of the Hot 100, following his first No. 1 alongside Camila Cabello with “Havana.”

Back in 2017, Post Malone teased some in-progress work with Young Thug ahead of the release of last year’s beerbongs & bentleys. “We got some killer shit tucked away,“ he told XXL at the time. “We got some stuff. It’s just tough, you know, both of our schedules, actually getting into the studio and finishing shit up.”

“Goodbyes” leaked back in March, but swift takedowns have largely kept the song under wraps. Thug is no stranger to leaks. Back in 2015, almost 60 of his songs leaked in the huge Rich Gang zip file, and several batches of unreleased tracks surfaced online earlier this year. But Post has also experienced his fair share of leaks, with the Kanye West collaboration, “Fuck the Internet,” serving as a recent example.
