Playboi Carti’s “Wokeuplikethis*” featuring Lil Uzi Vert dropped back in March, long before fans knew when his perpetually delayed debut mixtape would drop. Since then, the song has been overshadowed by Carti’s breakout single “Magnolia,” but remains a minor hit in its own right after peaking at No. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Today, Carti and Uzi dropped the song’s music video via TIDAL. It’s directed by JMP who has previously worked with artists like Joey Bada$$, Denzel Curry, and Post Malone.
In the visual, Carti and Uzi post up in a maximum security prison, spending their free time in the prison yard where they get their hair braided. While the song doesn’t have any direct references to jail, Carti does mention a girl who’s keen on cuffing him:
Oh I think they like me, that she like me
The bitch want to indict me, she can’t find me
