Quavo Explains How Future’s Success Inspires Atlanta’s Next Generation

“I’d never heard nobody go so hard on Auto-Tune.”

Future has scored a grand total of five No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart since 2015, making him the most successful rapper Atlanta has seen in years. His achievements have helped inspire the recent explosion in new-wave Atlanta rappers from Migos to Lil Yachty and 21 Savage, many of whom have followed Future’s signature formula of percussive, Auto-Tune heavy rapping and focus on trap beats.

One such artist, Migos rapper Quavo, recently explained in an interview with Billboard how the Freebandz boss helped pave the way for a new crop of Atlanta rappers and popularized a sound that the city has gravitated towards:

I’d never heard nobody go so hard on Auto-Tune. And on rapping, I never heard anybody really snap like that… That was a big moment for Atlanta. It touched the young niggas who was out grinding like us, and made us want to grind harder.

Surprisingly, the two rappers have never directly worked together before, although they both frequently work with producers like Mike WiLL Made-It, Metro Boomin, and Zaytoven.
