The San Diego MC goes behind the lyrics to the hit that’s had us whistling.

Genius debuted its new weekly video series Verified last week. In each episode, an artist breaks down the words to one of their biggest hits and reveals the deeper meaning behind the lyrics. Today, Rob $tone takes us inside his hypnotizing hit single “Chill Bill.”

The San Diego MC and RCA Records signee’s first single is a Kill Bill-influenced track complete with that haunting whistle sample, which we traced back to a 1968 thriller.

“The beat was made by Purp Dogg, and J. Davis had found the beat,” remembers $tone. “He played it for me and it was just an instant go, ’cause I was already familiar with the sample cause Kill Bill’s one of my favorite movies. It was just like, a given.”
