Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” Beats Justin Bieber’s “Yummy” To No. 1 On The Hot 100 Chart

Bieber’s new song debuted at No. 2.

After a competitive week that saw Justin Bieber encouraging fans to use questionable streaming tactics, Roddy Ricch’s hit single, “The Box,” rose to No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart. Bieber’s comeback single, “Yummy,” debuted at No. 2.

Bieber congratulated Roddy on the achievement on Twitter:

The Canadian star stoked controversy late last week after sharing a series of fan-made instructions on how to maximize the chart impact of “Yummy.” This included telling international fans to use a VPN to pose as US-based streamers, as well as more mundane tactics like leaving the song playing on repeat and buying multiple digital downloads. He deleted the post soon after, but the move earned criticism in the press and online.

Roddy eventually chimed in a with a good-natured encouragement to stream Bieber’s single:

“The Box” is Roddy Ricch’s first No. 1 single, and comes just as his career is taking off. His debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart this week, and his Mustard collaboration, “Ballin,” remains a top performer on the Hot 100.
