Billie Eilish just proved she is The Office’s No. 1 fan after Rainn Wilson, who starred as Dwight Schrute, quizzed her for Billboard. Eilish sampled a clip of the show on her latest album, and Wilson decided to put her knowledge of the NBC comedy to the test.
When Wilson pulled up to her Los Angeles home, the “bury a friend” singer revealed that she has watched the series 12 times. Not only that, she watches The Office on her phone throughout the day. “As soon as I wake up,” she said. “When I brush my teeth, and when I go to the bathroom, and when I take baths.”
Eilish’s typically easygoing demeanor broke in the face of the actor. After forgetting the answer to the first question, the 17-year-old admitted, “I don’t get nervous, and I’m nervous right now.” But she ended getting most of the obscure trivia questions right, flexing her knowledge of the name of Jan’s candle company, the names of Angela’s cats and Princess Unicorn’s catchphrase.
Wilson then gifted “young William Eyelash” with a yogurt lid necklace “that actually will go very well with your goth bling.”
The actor posted about their meet-up on Instagram, where he said:
I met one of the most intense OFFICE fans of all time, William Eyelash aka @WhereAreTheAvocados. She won a yoghurt lid medal for her preposterous knowledge of the show. What an honor. This is a remarkable young human being that touches hearts, blows minds and F*%#n ROCKS!
The singer notably sampled a clip from the show on her recent album cut, “my strange addiction.” The song opens with vocal snippets from Season 7 episode, “Threat Level Midnight.”
In the scene, Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) leads several office members in a dance called “The Scarn.” Here’s the line that plays in the song:
No, Billie, I haven’t done that dance since my wife died
There’s a whole crowd of people out there who need to learn how to do The Scarn
Although “my strange addiction” wasn’t released as a single, the song reached No. 43 on the Hot 100 last month. Seven other B-sides on her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? reached the chart, too.
As Genius user rogertaylorswift pointed out, Eilish opened her sets during her first headlining tour with the show’s theme song.
This isn’t the first time an Office star posted about Eilish. Angela Kinsey, who plays Angela Martin, uploaded a picture with the singer on Instagram.
She wrote about the “nice lil’ snippet” of the Office clip in her caption:
Congrats @wherearetheavocados on your new album… When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? We met at the San Francisco airport awhile back and I’m a dinosaur so I had no idea how talented you are!!
