Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae returned today with her debut studio album, i used to think i could fly. The LP arrives five years after she broke through with the single “One Day” and was preceded by four singles: “feel like shit,” “she’s all i wanna be,” “chaotic,” and “what would you do?”
McRae originally planned to release i used to think i could fly last week, but when she found out Harry Styles would be dropping his third album, Harry’s House, she changed her plans. “I moved my album a week later so I could fully enjoy Harry Styles album this week,” the Calgary native admitted in a TikTok video caption. “Not even kidding, ask my label.”
Leading up to the release of her debut, 18-year-old McRae said that the project is all about the growing pains she’s experienced over the last year. “It’s really cool because I feel like it’s very much sums up the last six months of me arriving in L.A. and turning 18,” she told Total Request Live. “I go through a lot of different emotions which was literally me going through an identity crisis.”
