Taylor Swift returns today with Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), the re-recorded version of her 2010 third album. The LP features new versions of the deluxe edition’s 16 songs, plus six additional ”From the Vault” tracks. Only two guests make appearances on the ”From the Vault” tracks: Fall Out Boy, who join Swift on ”Electric Touch,” (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)” and Hayley Williams, who sings on ”Castles Crumbling” (Taylor’s Version).”
Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) notably includes a re-recorded version of one of Taylor’s most beloved Track 5’s, ”Dear John,” a cutting ballad that has long been believed to be about ex John Mayer. Ahead of the release of the project, Swift had one request for fans in regards to the song.
”I was hoping to ask you that as we lead up to this album coming out, I would love for that kindness and that gentleness to extend onto our internet activities,” Swift said before performing ”Dear John” on stage during an Eras Tour concert in Minneapolis. ”I’m 33 years old, I don’t care about anything that happened to me when I was 19 except the songs I wrote.”
Swift went on to remind fans why she’s re-recording all of her old albums in the first place. ”I am putting this album out because I want to own my music, and I believe that any artist who has the desire to own their music should be able to,” she said.
